A man on Venice Beach boardwalk approached two homeless people who were eating chicken tenders. They greeted each other and offered him the rest of their food. He almost declined, but they assured him they were full and had plenty left so he thanked them and sat down. As he sat I took this picture. I had hidden my camera when I saw him approach so he would not notice and feel apprehensive. This photo shows his initial reaction towards me. At first he seemed agitated, but the couple who offered him food assured him, saying I was “okay,” and not a bad guy. He nodded and proceeded to eat some of their chicken tenders while discussing a mutual acquaintance that attempted to violently assault him the night before. The tone while discussing the event was very calm and pleasant despite the graphic nature of the assault. I asked him where he was from and why he was in LA and he told me, “ I came here for music.” He later showed me the tattoos on his body and we spoke for a few moments longer before I left to continue to wander the boardwalk.
